The Hotel Las Palomas opened in Torremolinos, Spain in 1967 and for many years was considered one of the region’s finest 4 star hotels. In the early 2000s, the hotel was sold multiple times to new owners and investors. On December 14th, 2012 the hotel closed. However the 100 plus workers fought their loss of wages in court on the basis that the hotel closed due to gross mismanagement. The workers occupied the building in protest and established an ad hoc oversight to preserve and protect the site in the hopes of the hotel once again opening. Through onsite discussions with some of the workers I was told that the local courts ruled in favor of the workers and that they will receive back wages and perhaps their jobs once the hotel is sold and reopens.

The Hotel Las Palomas is still closed.

I am continuing to research and follow this important labor story.
